Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney in Providence, RI. The role involves representing clients in removal proceedings and developing legal defenses tailored to client needs. The attorney will handle cases related to asylum, cancellation of removal, and other immigration matters.

Duties

  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Executive Office of Immigration Review.
  • Develop legal defenses specific to client needs.
  • Perform legal research and draft federal court litigation documents.
  • Draft correspondence and summaries for administrative agencies.
  • Review family-based immigration cases with USCIS and the Department of State.
  • Prepare family-based immigration petitions and applications.
  • Conduct case meetings with Case Coordinators and Case Managers.
  • Correspond with clients and administrative agencies.
  • Maintain organized client files and monitor case progress.
  • Contribute to the development of practice processes.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in removal defense, asylum, and family-based immigration matters preferred.
  • Ability to independently address common legal issues.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and agency practices.
  • Effective caseload and deadline management skills.
  • High awareness of legal developments and client needs.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree or equivalent.

Certifications

  • State Bar Membership.

Skills

  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to take on added responsibilities and learn new things.
  • Ability to show initiative and work as part of a team.
