Job Overview

A law firm seeks a mid-level associate with 3 to 5 years of experience to join its Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice group in Washington, D.C. This role involves advising clients on compliance with privacy and cybersecurity laws, managing responses to data breaches, and addressing legal risks related to data protection. The associate will work with clients across various sectors, handling complex matters at the intersection of data, technology, and law.

Duties

  • Advise clients on compliance with data protection and privacy laws.
  • Draft and review privacy policies, data processing agreements, and cybersecurity protocols.
  • Analyze and interpret regulations governing data privacy and cybersecurity.
  • Respond to data breaches and coordinate incident response activities.
  • Conduct risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies for data security.
  • Represent clients in regulatory investigations and enforcement actions.
  • Monitor developments in data privacy and cybersecurity laws.
  • Provide training and guidance on privacy and cybersecurity best practices to junior associates.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to implement data protection measures.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the District of Columbia bar and in good standing.
  • Minimum of 3 years of legal experience interpreting and applying privacy regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, and other global privacy frameworks.
  • Experience responding to cybersecurity incidents and managing data breach investigations.
  • Practical experience with and familiarity with legal AI tools and platforms.
  • Strong skills in legal writing, verbal communication, and performing detailed analyses.
  • Ability to effectively manage priorities and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Education

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the District of Columbia bar.
