Job Overview

A full-service law firm is seeking a full-time Litigation Associate to join its Environmental Law Practice Group in Indianapolis, Indiana. This opportunity allows an attorney to work alongside experienced practitioners within a well-established and expanding environmental practice. The role offers meaningful exposure to complex environmental and civil litigation matters and strong potential for professional development.

Duties

  • Handle complex environmental and civil litigation matters in both federal and state courts.

  • Represent clients in matters involving toxic torts, environmental cost recovery, insurance coverage disputes related to contaminated property, and class or mass tort actions.

  • Participate in administrative proceedings before agencies such as the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

  • Research, interpret, and apply federal and state environmental statutes, regulations, and guidance materials.

  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents with precision and clarity.

  • Collaborate closely with attorneys, paralegals, clients, and external advisors while maintaining a high standard of client service.

Requirements

  • One to three years of experience in a legal setting, either in-house or at a law firm.

  • Strong legal research, writing, drafting, advocacy, and analytical capabilities.

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated initiative in developing professional expertise and visibility within the legal community.

  • Prior exposure to complex civil or administrative litigation is preferred, particularly in environmental or regulatory matters.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and the ability to work under pressure with diverse stakeholders.

  • High ethical standards, sound judgment, and meticulous attention to detail.

  • Comfortable using legal technology and capable of independently producing routine work product.

Education

  • Juris Doctor from a reputable and accredited law school, with academic performance in the top 20% of the graduating class.
