Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney to join its intellectual property practice in Rochester, NY. This in-office role involves hands-on responsibility and direct interaction with inventors and clients, focusing on mechanical and biomedical engineering technologies.

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and foreign patent applications in mechanical and biomedical technologies.
  • Prepare Office Action responses and conduct examiner interviews for patent applications.
  • Advise clients on patentability and prosecution strategy.
  • Manage patent portfolios and related deadlines with direct client communication.
  • Communicate with clients, inventors, and foreign associates regarding patent portfolio management.

Requirements

  • 3-4 years of substantive patent prosecution experience.
  • Strong technical background in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Admission to the USPTO (Patent Bar required).
  • Admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Experience drafting and prosecuting U.S. and foreign patent applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented practice.

Education

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the USPTO (Patent Bar required).

Skills

  • Strong technical background in relevant engineering fields.
  • Excellent communication and client management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
