Senior Associate - Family Law

Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Senior Associate in Family Law for its San Jose, CA office, offering a hybrid work environment. The role requires a seasoned litigator to manage complex, high-conflict family law cases across Northern California.

Duties

• Take primary responsibility for a complex, litigation-heavy family law caseload.
• Lead high-conflict cases from initial strategy through trial or resolution.
• Litigate matters involving complex asset division, support disputes, and contested custody issues.
• Appear regularly in court and deliver polished, persuasive advocacy.
• Draft and negotiate sophisticated marital settlement agreements.
• Strategically prepare clients, experts, and witnesses for hearings and trial.
• Supervise paralegals and ensure all pleadings and filings meet exacting standards.
• Maintain meticulous case documentation in CLIO.
• Uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and client advocacy.

Requirements

• 7+ years of exclusive or predominantly family law practice.
• Significant experience handling high-conflict, litigated matters.
• Proven record including, at minimum: 50+ contested hearings, 50+ marital settlement agreements, 10+ fully litigated cases.
• Meaningful experience with complex financial and asset issues.

Education

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active member in good standing with the California State Bar.

Skills

• Exceptional oral advocacy, legal writing, and negotiation skills.
• Strong strategic thinking, case ownership, and deadline discipline.
• Ability to perform at a high level in emotionally intense and adversarial environments.
• Proficiency with MS Office and familiarity with CLIO or comparable systems.
