Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property team in Rochester, NY. The successful candidate will contribute to the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in various chemical fields.

Duties

  • Draft U.S. and international patent applications related to small-molecule chemistry, pharmaceuticals, polymers, and chemical processes.
  • Prepare and file responses with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and coordinate patent prosecution with foreign associates.
  • Analyze invention disclosures and confer with inventors to assess patentability.
  • Conduct prior art searches and patentability assessments.
  • Identify arguments for office action responses based on examiner's rejections and cited references.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and anticipate needs.
  • Three years of full-time experience as a Patent Agent.

Education

  • Master's or PhD in chemistry or a related field.

Certifications

  • Registered before the USPTO in good standing.
