Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly skilled Transactional Attorney in Chicago, Illinois, to join its national real estate tax practice. The successful candidate will act as a deal architect, navigating the intersection of commercial real estate and tax law. Responsibilities include structuring, negotiating, and closing transactions while ensuring tax efficiency and compliance across jurisdictions.

Duties

  • Provide strategic counsel on tax-efficient deal structures for acquisitions, dispositions, and joint ventures.
  • Draft and negotiate complex agreements, including Purchase and Sale Agreements, commercial leases, and loan documents.
  • Lead due diligence processes, focusing on tax liabilities and environmental risks.
  • Collaborate to identify and secure real estate tax incentives.
  • Oversee the closing process, ensuring legal compliance and proper fund transfer.
  • Ensure transactions comply with property and tax laws.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Active member in good standing of at least one State Bar.
  • 3-6+ years of transactional real estate experience, ideally in a large or national law firm.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state tax codes related to real property.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-approved law school.

Certifications

  • Active State Bar membership.
