Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney in Washington, D.C. The firm represents clients in class and mass actions, individual arbitrations, and multidistrict litigation. The role involves significant responsibility in mass tort litigation, working with experienced trial lawyers on impactful cases. The position offers exposure to complex litigation strategy and the opportunity to contribute to large-scale proceedings from early development through trial.

Duties

  • Evaluate and develop claims for injured clients, including factual and legal analysis.
  • Review and synthesize medical records, case files, and investigatory materials.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and legal memoranda.
  • Manage written discovery and large-scale document review processes.
  • Take and defend depositions of plaintiffs, fact witnesses, and expert witnesses.
  • Communicate directly with clients regarding case status, expectations, and next steps.
  • Collaborate with co-counsel and national litigation teams in coordinated proceedings.
  • Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit development and case strategy.
  • Attend hearings, court appearances, and trials as needed.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active U.S. bar license in good standing (Illinois, D.C., or Florida preferred).
  • 3-5 years of experience in complex litigation.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective client and colleague interaction.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in mass torts, product liability, or personal injury litigation.
  • Familiarity with multidistrict litigation (MDL), class actions, or other complex civil litigation.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing medical records.
  • Exposure to expert witness development and coordination.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active U.S. bar license in good standing.

Skills

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
