Job Overview

A law firm seeks a full-time Associate Attorney in Lake Success, New York, specializing in guardianship and elder law. This position involves active litigation, frequent court appearances, and direct client engagement, particularly with vulnerable populations and long-term care planning.

Duties

  • Handle guardianship and elder law matters through all phases of litigation
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and legal documents
  • Conduct legal research and motion practice
  • Appear in court, including Surrogate's Court and Supreme Court proceedings
  • Manage guardianship cases, including contested and uncontested matters
  • Advise clients on Medicaid planning, eligibility, and public benefits
  • Communicate with clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel
  • Collaborate with attorneys and staff across departments

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in guardianship, elder law, Medicaid planning, or related areas
  • Experience with Mental Hygiene Law Article 81 proceedings preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and professional judgment
  • Comfortable working in a fully in-office setting

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
