Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Data Privacy Associate to support its data privacy and security practice, with a preference for candidates based in Charlotte or Charleston, South Carolina. This role focuses on advising clients on privacy, cybersecurity, AI, and data governance matters in a transactional and regulatory setting.

Duties

  • Draft, review, and negotiate data privacy and security provisions in commercial agreements.
  • Work on vendor, SaaS, licensing, and other technology-related contracts.
  • Advise on privacy compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Support development of privacy programs and product-related initiatives.
  • Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys on transactional privacy matters.
  • Monitor developments in data privacy laws and regulations.
  • Assist with data breach response matters as needed.

Requirements

  • 2 to 4 years of relevant legal experience.
  • Interest or experience in data privacy, cybersecurity, or technology transactions.
  • Experience with commercial contracts and privacy compliance issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a collaborative environment.
  • Willingness to participate in business development activities.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, or Washington, DC.
  • CIPP certification preferred.
