Job Overview:
A global law firm is seeking a Counsel, AI Risk & Compliance to support the responsible evaluation, implementation, and governance of artificial intelligence technologies across the organization. This position sits at the intersection of technology, risk management, regulatory compliance, data governance, and legal ethics, providing strategic guidance on AI-related legal, operational, cybersecurity, and reputational risks. The role works closely with technology, security, business, and legal stakeholders to enable innovation while maintaining compliance with legal and professional obligations.

Duties:

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor on AI-related tools, platforms, vendors, and initiatives across the organization
  • Collaborate with technology, information security, procurement, marketing, business development, and knowledge management teams throughout the AI lifecycle
  • Guide regarding AI systems' interaction with firm operations, client information, internal data, and technology infrastructure
  • Advise on matters involving privacy, cybersecurity, confidentiality, intellectual property, data governance, and professional responsibility obligations
  • Support vendor due diligence, contract negotiations, and risk assessments involving AI technologies and service providers
  • Develop legal standards and governance frameworks related to AI vendors, data usage, and technology practices
  • Assess risks associated with advanced AI technologies, including autonomous systems, workflow automation, data leakage, privilege escalation, and cybersecurity threats
  • Review proposed uses of client and organizational data for AI development, testing, training, and deployment initiatives
  • Monitor evolving domestic and international AI laws, regulations, and industry developments, and translate them into practical guidance
  • Develop and deliver AI-related policies, training programs, and compliance resources for attorneys and business professionals
  • Partner with business development and marketing teams regarding AI-related communications, proposals, and external representations
  • Support cross-functional governance initiatives involving technology innovation and risk management

Requirements:

  • Significant legal experience in technology transactions, privacy, cybersecurity, data governance, regulatory compliance, professional responsibility, or related areas
  • Experience advising on artificial intelligence, machine learning, technology governance, or data use matters within a law firm, regulated industry, or sophisticated in-house environment
  • Familiarity with AI governance frameworks, privacy regulations, cybersecurity principles, vendor risk management, and intellectual property considerations
  • Ability to evaluate complex legal and operational issues involving emerging technologies
  • Experience developing policies, training programs, templates, and scalable compliance processes
  • Strong business judgment and ability to provide practical, risk-based guidance on innovative technologies
  • Technical understanding sufficient to collaborate effectively with technology and security professionals

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Active bar membership in good standing

  • Ability to explain complex technology and regulatory issues in practical business terms
