Job Overview: A law firm specializing in construction litigation seeks a highly experienced Construction Litigation Attorney with a deep understanding of construction law, contract negotiation, and dispute resolution. The ideal candidate will have substantial trial and arbitration experience, exceptional research and writing skills, and a proven client service and business development track record.

Duties:

  • Draft and negotiate standard form contracts (e.g., AIA, Consensus Docs) and custom contracts, addressing payment terms, limitations of liability, warranties, termination, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) clauses.
  • Handle all construction claims, including delays, inefficiencies, defects, warranties, design issues, liens, and bonds.
  • Lead litigation matters, including trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.
  • Argue motions and take/defend depositions, including expert witness depositions.
  • Conduct legal research and draft persuasive legal documents, including briefs, motions, and pleadings.
  • Manage client relationships, including regular communication, advising clients on legal strategies, and providing exceptional client service.
  • Develop new business opportunities and cultivate existing client relationships to grow the firm's construction litigation practice.
  • Supervise junior attorneys and legal staff as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends in construction law.

Requirements:

  • 8-15 years of significant experience in construction law, focusing on construction litigation.
  • Admission to the Michigan Bar is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction contracts and claims.
  • Proven experience in drafting and negotiating standard form contracts and custom contracts.
  • Extensive experience with various construction claims, trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.
  • Excellent research and writing abilities, with a record of producing high-quality legal documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Exceptional client service skills and the ability to effectively communicate legal concepts to clients.
  • Business development experience is preferred, including a portable business book with additional growth potential.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Michigan Bar is required.
  • Additional certifications or advanced degrees in construction law or related fields are a plus.
