Job Overview

A law firm seeks a mid-level associate attorney to join its Environment, Energy & Resources practice group in New York, NY. This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of digital infrastructure and energy transition, engaging with state and federal regulatory frameworks to shape future energy landscapes.

Duties

  • Negotiate power purchase agreements and energy service agreements for developers, utilities, and corporate buyers.
  • Advise on electric market design issues within RTOs/ISOs, focusing on capacity market mechanisms and interconnection policies.
  • Represent clients in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
  • Counsel clients on energy policy, renewable energy integration, and carbon-free energy strategies.

Requirements

  • 3-6 years of experience in energy law, with regulatory and transactional expertise.
  • Familiarity with the Federal Power Act and power market mechanics.
  • Ability to draft bespoke energy contracts.
  • Admitted to practice or eligible to waive into the jurisdiction of the office location.

Education

  • JD from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admitted to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.

Skills

  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills.
  • Expertise in regulatory compliance and energy policy.
