Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Maritime Attorney in Hackensack, New Jersey. The ideal candidate will have experience or interest in Admiralty and Maritime law and Transportation law. They will join a team with a strong presence in the maritime industry, representing clients such as ocean carriers and marine terminals.

Duties

  • Manage a litigation caseload from inception through resolution.
  • Draft and respond to written discovery.
  • Take and defend depositions.
  • Prepare, draft, and argue motions.
  • Participate in court appearances, status conferences, mediations, and arbitrations.
  • Develop case strategy and manage day-to-day litigation responsibilities.
  • Communicate directly with clients, providing strategic counsel and regular case updates.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across multiple offices and practice groups.
  • Assist with trial preparation and other high-stakes litigation activities.

Requirements

  • Admission to practice law in New York and New Jersey required.
  • 1+ years of defense litigation experience, maritime law and transportation law experience preferred.
  • Strong legal writing, research, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational, case management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to assume increasing responsibility.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.

Certifications

  • Bar admission in New York and New Jersey.

Skills

  • Experience handling depositions, motion practice, mediations, arbitrations, and court appearances.
  • Experience managing matters independently.
