Job Overview:
A New York City-based law firm is seeking a skilled litigation associate with 2-7 years of relevant experience to support its healthcare and medical malpractice defense practice. This hybrid role offers a blend of in-office and remote flexibility and involves representation of healthcare institutions and professionals across complex litigation matters. Candidates with a proactive mindset and a strong aptitude for case strategy and client interaction are well-suited for this position.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to devise legal strategies for defending medical malpractice claims

  • Draft and review litigation documents, including motions, pleadings, discovery responses, and legal briefs

  • Examine and analyze medical records to support defense positions

  • Attend court appearances, hearings, and settlement conferences

  • Conduct depositions and prepare witnesses, including medical experts

  • Communicate directly with clients, co-defendants, and insurers

  • Perform legal research and evaluate medical/legal issues involved in claims

  • Prepare case assessments and litigation reports for clients and team leads

Requirements:

  • Active license to practice law in New York

  • 2-7 years of litigation experience focused on medical malpractice or healthcare law

  • Familiarity with New York civil procedure and medical-related defense work

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar (mandatory)

Skills:

  • Advanced legal writing and oral advocacy abilities

  • Strong interpersonal communication and client-relations skills

  • Analytical thinking, especially with medical record review

  • Exceptional organizational and project management abilities

  • Confidence in handling matters independently and in team environments
