Job Overview:
A top law firm is seeking an experienced Biotechnology Patent Prosecution Associate to join its team. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in biotechnology patent prosecution and a Ph.D. in biology, molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, or a related field. This is an excellent opportunity to work with cutting-edge biotechnology patents for leading clients in the industry, while contributing to strategic and technical patent matters.

Location:

  • New York, NY

Duties:

  • Manage and prosecute biotechnology patent applications
  • Draft and file patent applications, including responses to office actions
  • Provide patentability, infringement, and validity analyses
  • Collaborate with inventors and clients to develop intellectual property strategies
  • Advise clients on patent portfolio management and related matters
  • Participate in client meetings and provide technical support for patent-related matters
  • Handle complex biotechnology patent issues in a dynamic legal environment

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience in biotechnology patent prosecution
  • Ph.D. in biology, molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Client-facing experience, with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • U.S. bar membership
  • Registration to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

Skills:

  • Expertise in biotechnology patent law
  • Proficiency in legal writing and patent drafting
  • Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
  • Client relationship management skills
