Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property team in Hackensack, NJ. The successful candidate will draft U.S. and international patent applications and manage patent prosecution processes.

Duties

  • Draft U.S. and international patent applications related to small-molecule chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and chemical processes.
  • Prepare and file responses for the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and coordinate patent prosecution instructions to foreign associations.
  • Analyze invention disclosures and confer with inventors to determine patentability.
  • Conduct prior art searches and patentability assessments.
  • Identify arguments for office action responses based on examiner's rejections and cited references.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and anticipate needs.
  • Three years' full-time experience as a Patent Agent.

Education

  • Master's or PhD in chemistry or related field.

Certifications

  • Registered before the USPTO in good standing.
