Job Overview:

A law firm specializing in intellectual property litigation is seeking a mid-level attorney to join its litigation team. This role offers the opportunity to handle diverse IP cases, manage client relationships, and contribute to the litigation process from discovery to trial. The position is ideal for attorneys with a strong background in intellectual property law and a passion for advancing their skills through mentorship and hands-on casework.

Location:

  • Chicago, IL

Duties:

  • Serve as first or second chair in intellectual property litigation cases
  • Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, and manage discovery
  • Take and defend depositions, including expert witness depositions
  • Represent clients in court hearings and trials
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and other team members to develop case strategies
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships
  • Manage case files, timelines, and communications with stakeholders
  • Mentor junior attorneys and provide guidance in case management

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience, with a focus on intellectual property cases preferred
  • Proven experience in taking and defending depositions, including expert witnesses
  • Trial experience, with at least second chair responsibilities
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines effectively

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admitted to practice law in the applicable state and federal courts
  • Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is preferred but not required

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of intellectual property laws and litigation processes
  • Strong analytical, research, and writing skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Excellent client management and interpersonal skills
  • High attention to detail and organizational ability
