Job Title: Senior Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm based in Berkeley, CA, is seeking an experienced litigation attorney for a senior-level associate role. The position offers the opportunity to engage in meaningful and socially impactful work across a wide range of public interest legal matters, including environmental protection, animal advocacy, land use, and open government transparency. Duties:

  • Manage and litigate complex civil and administrative matters from inception to resolution

  • Develop legal strategies, conduct factual investigations, and draft pleadings, motions, and briefs

  • Represent clients in state and federal courts, as well as administrative tribunals

  • Conduct legal research, discovery, oral arguments, and prepare for trial

  • Collaborate on case strategy and provide input on team decision-making

  • Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, paralegals, and interns

  • Engage with nonprofit and grassroots clients to understand and advance their legal goals

  • Participate in coalition-building and client education initiatives

  • Maintain a collegial and respectful work environment

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in civil litigation

  • Licensed to practice law in California

  • Ability to independently manage a litigation docket

  • Willingness to occasionally travel for court appearances, investigations, and client meetings

  • Strong interest in public interest litigation and community-based advocacy

  • Experience supervising legal staff or teams is preferred

  • Prior government or clerkship experience is advantageous

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active California Bar license
