Job Overview

A law firm seeks an Intellectual Property Associate in Seattle, WA, with at least 3-4 years of patent-prosecution experience in a law firm environment. The role involves protecting innovations in technology, including electrical, mechanical, and software innovations for consumer products and emerging products developed by startups.

Duties

  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications for cutting-edge technologies.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and product leaders to develop strategic patent portfolios.
  • Communicate with in-house counsel and client representatives on patentability and portfolio strategy.
  • Participate in invention-harvesting sessions and portfolio reviews.
  • Assist with supervision of junior team members.
  • Potential involvement in patent trial and appeal board and ex parte reexamination projects.

Requirements

  • At least 3-4 years of patent-prosecution experience in a law firm environment preferred.
  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in computer or information science, computer engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience with software-based technologies and innovation.

Certifications

  • USPTO registration number preferred.
  • Must pass the patent bar exam within the first twelve months if not already registered.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of software-implemented inventions and computer-related innovations.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into strategic patent portfolios.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
