Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Litigation Associate Attorney in New York, NY. The ideal candidate will join the defense litigation team, focusing on medical malpractice and general liability cases. They will possess strong analytical and writing skills, with experience managing cases through discovery in a dynamic litigation environment.

Duties

  • Defend clients in medical malpractice and general liability cases.
  • Manage files through all stages of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, and motion practice.
  • Draft and argue motions.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Take and defend depositions of parties, fact witnesses, and experts.
  • Prepare cases for trial, including expert coordination and pretrial submissions.
  • Appear in court for hearings, conferences, and mediations.
  • Communicate with clients, experts, and opposing counsel in a professional and effective manner.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license and good standing with the New York State Bar.
  • 2-3 years of litigation experience, preferably in medical malpractice and/or general liability defense.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience defending healthcare providers, hospitals, nursing homes, or insurers.
  • Deposition and motion hearing experience.
  • Trial preparation.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license and good standing with the New York State Bar.
