Commercial Litigation Associate

Job Overview

A law firm seeks a litigation attorney to join their team in Toledo, OH. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of general litigation experience and the ability to work independently on business disputes, including contract, insurance coverage, real estate, franchise, and regulatory litigation cases.

Duties

• Litigate commercial disputes from inception through resolution.
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, and legal memoranda.
• Take and defend depositions.
• Prepare for and handle or participate in hearings, mediations, and trials.
• Work closely with senior attorneys on case strategy and litigation management.
• Communicate with clients, experts, and opposing counsel.
• Manage caseload efficiently while meeting litigation deadlines and billable requirements.

Requirements

• Minimum 3+ years of commercial litigation experience required.
• Employment litigation experience is a plus, but not required.

Education

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school.

Certifications

• Active Ohio bar license required.
• Active Michigan bar license a plus.

Skills

• Strong writing skills.
• Knowledgeable about the lifecycle of litigation.
• Ability to draft pleadings and motions.
• Proactive and responsive to deadlines.
• Confidence in working independently and with attorneys and staff across offices.
