Job Overview

A respected law firm is seeking a dedicated Criminal Defense Attorney to join its criminal law department. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex criminal matters at both the state and federal levels. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in criminal law, excellent communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to manage multiple cases with compassion and attention to detail.

Location

  • Buffalo, New York

Duties

  • Support senior attorneys in all stages of criminal case management.

  • Interview clients in various settings, including jails, detention centers, and hospitals.

  • Review discovery materials and assess evidence.

  • Schedule and attend court appearances.

  • Draft legal documents, including motions, pleadings, and case summaries.

  • Participate in plea negotiations and case strategy development.

  • Represent clients at conferences, hearings, and trials in both federal and state courts.

  • Communicate and negotiate with federal and state prosecutors.

  • Manage all aspects of litigation for assigned criminal cases.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience practicing criminal law.

  • Knowledge of both state and federal criminal court procedures.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment.

  • Experience handling sensitive or high-stakes matters with professionalism and discretion.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of New York.

Skills

  • Strong legal research, analysis, and drafting skills.

  • Excellent oral and written communication.

  • Skilled in negotiation and client advocacy.

  • High emotional intelligence, compassion, and empathy when working with clients.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
