Job Overview

A boutique law firm in Richmond, Virginia is seeking a highly motivated Associate Attorney with 2 or more years of experience in estate planning, estate administration, and trust administration. This position offers an opportunity to work with sophisticated transactions for high-net-worth individuals, gain significant client contact, and contribute to a firm culture that values ongoing legal education, collaboration, and long-term professional growth.

Duties

  • Conduct client intake and manage estate planning engagements from start to finish

  • Draft estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, and powers of attorney

  • Oversee estate and trust administration processes

  • Provide legal guidance on estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax matters

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on complex transactions and client strategy

  • Engage in legal research and writing, including drafting memoranda and communications

  • Maintain awareness of developments in trust and estate law and contribute to firm learning

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in estate planning, estate administration, and trust administration

  • Ability to independently manage client relationships and legal matters

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple complex matters

  • Proven communication skills and a client-focused mindset

  • Demonstrated interest in professional growth and continuing legal education

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

  • LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning preferred (not required)

Certifications

  • Admission to the Virginia State Bar or eligibility for admission

Skills

  • Strong drafting and legal writing skills

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal abilities

  • Proficiency in handling legal and tax issues for high-net-worth individuals and families

  • Analytical thinking and sound legal judgment

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

  • Experience in business and marital planning is a plus
