Job overview

A law firm seeks a mid- to senior-level Intellectual Property Associate with a background in computer science or electrical engineering to join their team in any of their office locations. The ideal candidate will have experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, with technical expertise in computer circuits, multiprocessor design, or telecommunications.

Duties

  • Interview inventors and prepare patent applications.
  • Conduct all stages of US and foreign patent prosecution, including ex parte appeals.
  • Perform validity, infringement, and freedom to operate studies, and prepare associated legal opinion letters.
  • Provide legal counsel on intellectual property matters, focusing on patent issues, and including basic licensing, trademark, and copyright matters.
  • Collaborate with partners, associates, and support staff to ensure effective case management.
  • Stay informed on developments in intellectual property law and contribute to the firm's knowledge base.

Requirements

  • Two to five years of patent prosecution experience.
  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Technical background (BS/MS preferred).
  • Registered practitioner at the US Patent and Trademark Office or Patent Bar Eligible.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Superior analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property law and patent litigation procedures.
  • Litigation experience is a bonus but not required.

Education

  • JD from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Registered practitioner at the US Patent and Trademark Office or Patent Bar Eligible.
