Wood Smith Henning & Berman is an established law firm with a remote work environment and flexible schedule. It is known for throwing young associates �into the fire� by having them do real, substantive work right out of the gate, leading to many becoming competent beyond their year level at a much faster pace than if they were in another firm. Associates have stated that there is more than enough work to meet the billable requirement, which is high for a west coast firm. However, this is a firm for those who enjoy billables, as there is a bit of a �churn and burn� mentality when it comes to young associates. The workload is heavy, and there is very little in the way of mentorship and oversight for associates. Furthermore, the base salaries are low for the geographical area, and there is an extremely high turnover rate. The one complaint that many associates have is that there is no 401k matching. Despite these drawbacks, interesting cases come through the door, given the range of industries the firm covers, and associates are able to build a strong foundation in the law.
