Ball Janik LLP was founded in 1982 with six lawyers and a four-person support staff in Portland, Oregon. Since our firm's inception, we have expanded our capabilities, our professionals, and geographic footprint. Formerly known as Ball Janik & Novack, the firm focused primarily on real property and land use. Over the years, we have grown to include an insightful team of 30-plus attorneys.

In addition to its growing list of practice areas, Ball Janik has expanded geographically, opening offices in Orlando, Florida in January 2014, and in Miami, Florida in June 2019. Our Florida offices are well-known for representing owners with construction and design, construction defect, real estate litigation, and insurance recovery matters. "

Ball Janik LLP's founding office opened its doors in 1982 and has played a major role in shaping the landscape of present-day Portland and its surrounding areas. The Portland office provides professional services to clients in real estate, land use, litigation, bankruptcy and creditor rights, business and corporate, construction defect, insurance recovery, and labor and employment. The Portland office is conveniently located in downtown Portland, across the street from the Mark O. Hatfield federal courthouse, one block from beautiful Waterfront Park, and two blocks from MAX, the regional light rail system, which also connects to the innovative Portland Streetcar. The sophistication of the legal practice in Portland rivals that of larger cities. Many of our attorneys relocated to Portland after beginning their careers at prominent firms in larger cities, including Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington, DC.
