Ball Janik LLP was established in 1982 in Portland, Oregon, with a team of six attorneys and a four-person support staff. The founding partners' primary focus was on real property and land use. Over the years, the firm expanded its capabilities and professionals, and rebranded as Ball Janik & Novack. The firm currently has more than 30 attorneys and a growing list of practice areas.

Ball Janik has also expanded its geographic footprint by opening offices in Orlando, Florida in January 2014, and in Miami, Florida in June 2019. The Florida offices have earned a reputation for representing owners with construction and design, construction defect, real estate litigation, and insurance recovery matters.

Ball Janik LLP's founding office opened its doors in 1982 and has played a major role in shaping the landscape of present-day Portland and its surrounding areas. The Portland office provides professional services to clients in real estate, land use, litigation, bankruptcy and creditor rights, business and corporate, construction defect, insurance recovery, and labor and employment. The Portland office is conveniently located in downtown Portland, across the street from the Mark O. Hatfield federal courthouse, one block from beautiful Waterfront Park, and two blocks from MAX, the regional light rail system, which also connects to the innovative Portland Streetcar. The sophistication of the legal practice in Portland rivals that of larger cities. Many of our attorneys relocated to Portland after beginning their careers at prominent firms in larger cities, including Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington, DC.
