Reviews of the firm from attorneys and others who have worked there paint a picture of a firm that has a lot to offer. It has a friendly office atmosphere, a flexible remote policy, and pays top of the market wages. Associates can try out different practice areas and have access to excellent mentorship opportunities and great support staff. The firm also offers attractive benefits including profit sharing, tuition reimbursement and transit stipends.
The negatives are that the headquarters is in Dallas, and the cost of living there is not taken into account for all offices. Work life balance is lacking and business development hours are not counted as billable. Associates also report feeling like cogs in a machine, long hours, unorganized management and structure, underappreciated staff, high turnover, and diatribes from partners.
Overall, the reviews of McKool Smith indicate that it is a well-respected law firm with some great benefits and opportunities, but that there are also some drawbacks that should be taken into consideration.
