Pedersen & Houpt was founded in 1957 by Peer Pedersen, a veteran of World War II and former law associate of Illinois State Representative and Senator W. Russell Arrington. With the goal of providing the highest caliber of legal services to prominent business leaders in Chicago and Illinois, Peer Pedersen established the law firm as an independent-minded entrepreneur. Six years later, Richard V. Houpt, a University of Illinois law school classmate of Peer, joined the firm, bringing additional expertise in municipal, zoning, and land use law. Both Peer and Richard were noted for their hard work and commitment to both community service and commercial success.

Currently, Pedersen & Houpt offers a variety of legal services to a wide range of clients, from large public companies to early stage companies, start-ups, and small businesses. The firm is comprised of talented and diverse individuals who embody the entrepreneurial, innovative, and collaborative spirit of the founders.
