Advice to law firm management: The firm can actually invest in its associates with associate retreats and associate development and take responsibility for providing work to associates rather than giving it to other partners.
Pros: The fellow associates are friendly and supportive. They are a great resource to bounce ideas off of.
Cons: The IP practice group is poorly managed. The group is constantly hiring new associates who then struggle to meet the billable expectations. The group claims to foster a collegial environment but does nothing to follow through on this sale. I would caution anyone considering working for the IP group, they may not be set up for success in this group.
Partners to Avoid and Why: David Burns should be approached with caution. He flat out refuses to train associates, he will tell you to make edits or that something is wrong but won't answer clarifying questions when trying to address the edits, he will get on your case when you don't send a draft to him soon enough and yet habitually takes extensions with the PTO.
