BCG Attorney Search speaks with attorneys about law firms every day. Here is what attorneys are saying:

Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC, is a law firm that has been providing legal services to clients for many years. Reviews from those who have worked at the firm have been mostly positive, citing the flexible work hours, minimal life balance flexibility, and great conference room lunch gatherings and summer and Christmas parties as some of the positive aspects. Other benefits noted by reviewers include free lunches and the occasional free lunch, and a stable work environment with kind people. Reviewers also noted that the paychecks never bounced, and that if tasks were completed on time, employees were given the option to leave early or take comp time.

However, there were also some negative reviews from those who had worked at Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC. These complaints mainly revolved around the compensation, which some reviewers felt was on the low side, and the benefits, particularly healthcare, which was rated as a 1 out of 10. Layoffs were also mentioned as a negative aspect, as well as a terrible atmosphere, disrespectful management and a controlled environment.

Overall, the reviews of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC seem to suggest that it is a good firm to work for, with a friendly atmosphere, flexible work hours and decent benefits. The pay could be better, but it appears to be a stable environment with kind people and the occasional free lunch.

Cons: 1.0 Current Employee Be Careful Who You Work For Oct 28, 2022 - Lawyer Pros Washington DC: Great Location. Some very nice people Cons Washington DC office: Some people are good to work for, some are extremely difficult. Life is too short to work for someone who does not treat you well. Find people on LinkedIn who used to work at the office you are applying to. Ask their opinions about the people you will be working for. They can give you the most honest assessment because they are no longer tied to the firm. Even people who worked at the firm many years ago can provide valuable insights.1.0 Former Employee, less than 1 year Disorganized May 26, 2022 - Legal Assistant Pros Nothing particularly comes to mind. Cons I felt micromanaged and onboarding training was lacking.I wouldn't recommend working there.Senior Paralegal (Former Employee) - Philadelphia, PA - May 24, 2022They put us on furlough during Covid for 9 months, terminated our health benefits, and told us we were to return to work only to lay off 80% of the firm. They kept two departments running which were allowed to work remotely during Covid telling the rest us they didn't have remote capability. They laid off employees who worked for 30 years plus with no severance pay. Then asked only a few to return. We were instructed to apply for unemployment when they laid us off. My overall experience is that this firm does not care about their employees.

"The Cost of Poor Management: Lacking Investment in Associates and Low Morale at the Firm" - Anonymous

- Reviewed on Jan 25, 2023

Cons: Management makes promises to associates about their professional development, but in reality, they do not invest in them. Associates are valued based on how much money they bring to the firm and those who do not generate enough billable hours are let go. Overall morale within the firm was low. Suggestions: To improve the firm, management should invest in their associates and focus on their long-term development rather than only considering their billable hours. Lateral hiring is not a sustainable solution.
