What Do Recruiters Look For In A Candidate
Harrison:[00:00:00] How can I make myself more attractive to recruiters if I'm a newer attorney?
Recruiters typically don't work with newer attorneys. You could use Law Crossing or something to look for jobs, but typically recruiters only work with people that have experience. You have to have some sort of sellable skills.
The reason is because recruiters based to get hired by a firm to find people that are difficult for it to find. If you were a certain type of attorney that, hadn't experienced then it becomes much more difficult to find people once they're out of school. So you have to look at, there's realistically, there's probably 50 plus practice areas. So, out of those 50 plus practice areas, you have to consider, what are people doing? When someone gets out of law school, if they're one of the 50 practice areas that are not very popular, then there's not going to be a lot of those people out there. It's much easier for them to get a job. So, if you go into FDA related work, when you get out of law school and a law firm, while there's not going to be a lot of people like you. And, so, if there's an FDA open in Minnesota, there's [00:01:00] probably not many FDA attorneys in Minnesota.
So, out of everyone that graduated, the 30,000 people that graduated, maybe only, 20 people go into that each year. So, there's only 20 people.
The point is that the rare you are, the rare your skills are, the rare your background, the more in demand you are to a recruiter and law firms will use recruiters. But, law firms do not want to use recruiters necessarily, if you're not that in demand.
