Why It Doesn't Matter Where You Practice From?
[00:00:00] Do firms require associates to work from home from a jurisdiction in which they are licensed? I'm an incoming first-year associate at a firm that is notorious for facetime requirement. Was wondering if it's a good idea to live in Jersey City and work from home from there if the firm goes back...
That's great that you got a job in a big V 10 firm so if you do have that job, you can certainly work from home in Jersey City and work from home there. I think one of the things that I would recommend that I always thought, and this is just for young attorneys, as much as you dislike it.
When I first moved to LA to work in my first job, I actually got an apartment almost right next door to the skyscraper where I was practicing in LA because I want it to be very close to work. So as a young attorney you don't have as much free time as you would like.
So, if you want to exercise and spend time with your significant other and go out and stuff, it's often a good idea to try to live as close to the office as you can. And in your case, you're not talking about a huge commute depending on where you are at. Your firm is in New York, but you can certainly work from home. You could be a New York attorney working in Bangkok and practicing in New York [00:01:00] from Bangkok.
It doesn't matter where you're practicing from.
