"Is mentioning your certificate courses ever a good idea?"
Yes, certain certificate courses can be a good idea if it's related to the practice of law. If it's not, people will show that they've taken certificate courses and things that aren't really related to what they're doing. And so that actually can help you or hurt you. You need to be careful about mentioning certificate courses. Most certificate courses aren't anything that requires an exam or taking CLE credits, which take a lot of time. I don't think that on a very substantive resume where there's a lot of work involved, that in general, a certificate course is a good idea. But if you want to be a certain type of attorney. If you were, for example, a trust and estate attorney, and you got a certificate in doing a certain type of trust return or foreign returns or something, then that could be useful. Otherwise, it's probably not a good idea.
