I think that the best way to connect with people online, a lot of times, is to look at the camera, to not be distracted, to smile and be enthusiastic. And I agree. I do think it's easier to connect in person.
One of the best ways to connect is if you find something positive in the person's background that you like, then you can bring that up in the interview and people love being heard, and they also love being complimented. So the more you can compliment people and make them feel special and good, the better off you're going to be.
