Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Trial Lawyer in Training in Austin, Texas. This role offers a structured program designed to develop talented attorneys into elite litigators through real cases, mentorship, and courtroom experience from the start. The position provides a clear path to becoming a Lead Trial Lawyer, with responsibilities tied to performance.

Duties

  • Draft substantive motions, briefs, pleadings, and discovery.
  • Conduct complex legal research to shape trial strategy.
  • Prepare cases for mediation and trial consistently.
  • Collaborate with experts on liability, damages, and medical issues.
  • Participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials.
  • Progressively take ownership of depositions, motion arguments, and trial portions.
  • Maintain files in a trial-ready posture at all times.

Requirements

  • Licensed and in good standing with the Texas, Arizona, Colorado, or New Mexico State Bar.
  • 0-5 years of experience, with litigation experience preferred.
  • Strong legal writing ability for motions, briefs, discovery, and memos.
  • Demonstrated analytical and research skills.
  • Ambition and a relentless work ethic.
  • Highly coachable with a low ego and high standards.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work with support staff.
  • Knowledge of TRCP and Rules of Evidence preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in Texas, Arizona, Colorado, or New Mexico.

Skills

  • Strong legal writing and research abilities.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Proficiency in managing high-volume litigation work.
