Job Overview: A law firm in McLean, VA, is seeking a Patent Attorney to work with partners and senior associates on a range of patent-related matters, including domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, legal opinions, freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses, and patent office litigation. The ideal candidate should have 2-4 years of relevant experience and a strong educational background in biotechnology, cell or molecular biology, bioengineering, or biochemistry. This position requires a JD from a top-tier law school and admission to one or more State Bars, as well as admission to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with partners and senior associates to draft domestic and foreign patent applications.
  • Conduct freedom-to-operate and patentability analyses to support client decisions.
  • Research and draft legal opinions for clients regarding patent matters.
  • Assist in patent office litigation cases as needed.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in a law firm or in-house drafting patent applications and assisting with opinions.
  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in biotechnology, cell or molecular biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Technical expertise in biotechnology, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry.
  • JD from a top-tier law school.
  • Admission to one or more State Bars.
  • Admission to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.
