A law firm seeks a highly motivated Family Law Associate Attorney to join its expanding team in San Antonio. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex family law cases under the mentorship of experienced partners, while also providing the autonomy to manage individual cases. The ideal candidate will have a passion for litigation, a desire to advance toward board certification, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on complex family law cases, while also managing individual cases independently.
  • Prepare and file legal documents, including petitions, motions, and discovery requests.
  • Participate in trial preparation and actively engage in trial proceedings, including bench and jury trials (as first or second chair).
  • Conduct and defend depositions and prepare for and participate in mediations.
  • Manage a docket of approximately 40 to 60 cases, ensuring timely progress on all matters.
  • Communicate proactively with clients, providing consistent, empathetic updates.
  • Perform complex discovery work and prepare case materials for litigation.
  • Ensure efficient case management, minimizing reliance on support staff where possible.

Requirements:

  • 1+ years of civil litigation experience, preferably with a focus on family law.
  • Ability to independently manage a full caseload of family law matters.
  • Strong skills in trial preparation, drafting, and conducting trials (bench and jury).
  • Experience conducting and defending depositions, as well as preparing for and participating in mediations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on client relations.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to handle a significant caseload.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal oversight while being part of a collaborative team.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.

Skills:

  • Strong litigation skills, particularly in family law and civil matters.
  • Excellent drafting and legal research abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage a docket of multiple cases with attention to detail.
  • Experience with case management software and technology.
  • Compassionate, empathetic communication with clients.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
