Job Overview

A law firm seeks a client-centered, detail-oriented Associate Attorney with 2-5 years of experience to join their team in Bismarck, North Dakota. The role involves supporting a dynamic practice in family law, criminal defense, estate planning, and probate, working closely with the Lead Attorney and collaborating with paralegals and legal assistants to deliver high-quality legal services.

Duties

  • Manage a caseload in family law, criminal defense, estate planning, and/or probate.
  • Develop case strategies, conduct legal research, and analyze facts and evidence.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings and motions.
  • Appear in court for hearings and proceedings; prepare and advocate effectively.
  • Support negotiation, mediation, and trial preparation as needed.
  • Communicate with clients professionally and manage case files efficiently.
  • Collaborate with paralegals and legal assistants, providing clear instructions.
  • Participate in case reviews and process improvements.
  • Track time accurately and support billing narratives.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
  • Engage in business development and community visibility efforts.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of relevant legal experience in family law, criminal defense, estate planning, and/or probate.
  • Ability to draft strong legal documents and manage deadlines.
  • Courtroom or hearing experience preferred.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Licensed to practice law in North Dakota or ability to obtain licensure promptly.
