Job Title: Patent Agent

Job Overview:
A well-established law firm is looking to add a skilled Patent Agent to its dynamic team in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will have expertise in preparing and prosecuting patent applications in various technical fields, including Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Software Engineering. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to exciting and innovative projects while working in a flexible and supportive environment.

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute patent applications in multiple technical domains such as Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Software Engineering
  • Conduct prior art searches and analyze technical documents to assess patentability
  • Collaborate with attorneys and clients to refine patent strategies and ensure strong intellectual property protection
  • Draft clear, concise, and legally sound patent claims
  • Communicate effectively with patent examiners, clients, and colleagues to facilitate the patent application process
  • Monitor and respond to office actions and other communications from patent offices
  • Assist in patent portfolio management and related matters
  • Stay current on industry trends and patent law developments

Requirements:

  • Strong technical background in Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Software Engineering
  • 2-3 years of experience in patent prosecution or relevant technical field
  • In-depth understanding of patent laws and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze complex technical concepts and translate them into patentable ideas
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Prior experience with patent office communications and filings is highly desirable

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration (Patent Agent) required

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent prosecution and intellectual property law
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Knowledge of technical documentation and patent office procedures
  • Excellent drafting skills for clear and precise patent applications
  • Familiarity with patent databases and search tools
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with clients and colleagues effectively
