Job Overview

A law firm seeks a Patent Agent in Chicago, IL, to assist with patent research, application preparation, and prosecution activities. This role involves managing patent portfolios and providing client support with minimal attorney oversight. A hybrid work schedule is available.

Duties

• Draft, prepare, and submit patent applications to the USPTO.
• Review and respond to communications from patent offices.
• Engage in client interactions independently.
• Guide and train IP support professionals.
• Support patent enforcement, licensing, and business transactions.
• Assist with patentability, validity, and infringement opinions.
• Conduct complex research and analysis.

Requirements

• 4-7 years of patent agent experience.
• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Familiarity with AI-driven software and FinTech platforms.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to manage deadlines and monitor prosecution docket.

Education

• Advanced scientific degree (M.S., Ph.D.) or Bachelor's in technical discipline with relevant experience.

Certifications

• Passed Patent Bar Exam.
