Job Overview:
A leading law firm in the Upper Midwest is seeking a qualified Associate Attorney to join its Oil, Gas & Energy practice group in Fargo, North Dakota. This position offers the opportunity to work with energy companies, landowners, and stakeholders in complex legal matters involving mineral rights, regulatory compliance, contracts, and energy-related litigation. The role is ideal for an attorney with experience in oil, gas, and energy law who is looking to grow their practice in a dynamic and collaborative legal environment.

Location:

  • Fargo, North Dakota

Duties:

  • Advise clients on regulatory compliance issues related to oil, gas, and energy operations

  • Draft and negotiate surface agreements, mineral leases, and other contractual documents

  • Represent clients in litigation involving royalty payments, lease disputes, surface rights, and related issues

  • Handle title curative work, including dormant mineral and quiet title actions

  • Assist clients in the creation and management of mineral-related trusts and limited liability companies

  • Monitor developments in energy law and provide counsel on legislative and regulatory updates

  • Participate in strategy development for high-stakes energy-related disputes and transactions

Requirements:

  • Relevant legal experience in oil, gas, or energy law preferred

  • Ability to manage multiple matters independently and within deadlines

  • Strong client service orientation and collaborative mindset

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in North Dakota or eligibility for prompt admission

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing capabilities

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills

  • Solid understanding of energy industry contracts and regulatory frameworks

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to manage complex title and trust matters
