Tax Attorney

Job Overview:

A law firm in Kalamazoo, MI, is seeking an experienced Tax Attorney to join its team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax compliance and law firm or public accounting firm experience, demonstrating exceptional business development skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects. The role requires outstanding attention to detail, client service, and the capability to lead complex tax cases.

Duties:

• Provide expert legal advice on tax-related matters, including compliance, planning, and controversy.
• Manage and oversee tax files, ensuring accurate and timely handling of client cases.
• Develop and maintain client relationships, demonstrating the ability to grow and manage a portable business book.
• Supervise client interactions and lead cases through various stages, ensuring high-quality service.
• Handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining high responsiveness.
• Collaborate with colleagues and clients to address and resolve complex tax issues.
• Stay current on tax law and regulation changes to provide up-to-date advice.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in a law or public accounting firm with significant tax compliance experience.
• Proven ability to develop business and manage client relationships.
• Demonstrated capability to handle multiple cases and projects with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent customer/client service skills in building and maintaining strong client relationships.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation is strongly preferred.

Certifications:

• Admission to the Michigan Bar is required.

• In-depth knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations.
