International Trade Counsel

Job Overview

A law firm seeks an International Trade Counsel to join their integrated, full-service international trade practice in San Francisco, California, or Chicago, Illinois. The position is open to senior associates or counsel with substantial experience in customs matters and related areas.

Duties

• Provide counsel on customs matters, including ruling requests and prior disclosures.
• Handle protests, petitions, and audit defense involving tariff classification and valuation.
• Advise on free trade agreements and trade remedies.
• Manage export control and sanctions matters, including compliance counseling and licensing.
• Engage in enforcement defense and CFIUS-related national security regulatory matters.

Requirements

• Substantial experience in customs matters and trade remedies.
• Experience advising on tariffs under IEEPA, Section 232, and Section 301.
• Strong verbal, analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills.

Education

• Excellent academic credentials required.

Certifications

• Relevant legal certifications preferred.
