The successful candidate will represent governmental entities in federal and state courts, focusing on civil rights matters. This role involves providing expert legal counsel, conducting litigation, and advocating for clients to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Duties

• Represent governmental entities in federal and state courts in civil rights litigation matters.
• Conduct legal research, analysis, and develop case strategies.
• Draft and file legal documents, argue substantive motions, and take and defend depositions.
• Prepare and assist in trial proceedings.
• Collaborate with senior attorneys and clients to develop litigation strategies.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records and documentation.
• Engage in settlement negotiations when appropriate.
• Provide legal advice and guidance to clients on civil rights issues.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in the Illinois State Bar.
• 3-10 years of experience handling civil rights litigation matters in both federal and state courts.
• Trial experience is a plus.
• Strong legal research and writing skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Self-starter and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to travel within the state of Illinois as required.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications
