Job Title: Patent Agent
Job Overview: A law firm located in Delray Beach, FL, seeks an experienced Patent Agent with a strong background in life sciences to support its expanding intellectual property practice. This professional will collaborate with legal teams and scientific professionals to manage a wide range of IP-related activities, with a primary focus on biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical device innovations.
Duties:
Review and assess the patentability of inventions across various technologies
Prepare, draft, and submit U.S. patent applications
Manage patent prosecution before the USPTO and coordinate international filings with overseas representatives
Provide support for intellectual property due diligence, including freedom-to-operate and patent landscape analyses
Assist in the strategic development and management of patent portfolios
Conduct scientific and legal research relevant to patent law matters
Engage with attorneys, internal stakeholders, and clients to align on IP strategies
Participate in cross-functional initiatives and maintain communication with external legal advisors
Requirements:
Minimum of 4 years of patent prosecution experience within a legal or corporate IP environment
Direct exposure to biotech, pharmaceutical, or medical device innovations
Familiarity with international patent prosecution processes
Education:
Ph.D. in a life sciences-related field such as molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or a similar discipline
Certifications:
Active registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office or qualification to sit for the Patent Bar
Skills:
Strong foundation in scientific and technical concepts within the life sciences
Exceptional writing, analytical, and communication skills
Ability to manage priorities in a collaborative, deadline-driven setting
Familiarity with mechanical or electrical patent work is advantageous
