Job Overview

A law firm seeks an experienced Data Privacy Attorney to join its Data Privacy and Cybersecurity practice in San Francisco, CA. The attorney will counsel clients across various industries on data protection, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies, including AI. This role involves advising on compliance, supporting corporate transactions, managing data breach responses, and handling privacy-related disputes.

Duties

  • Counsel clients on compliance with CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, HIPAA, GLBA, CIPA, and other privacy laws.
  • Draft and implement privacy and data protection policies.
  • Advise on emerging AI laws and best practices for AI policies and contracts.
  • Handle privacy and cybersecurity issues in corporate transactions.
  • Lead data breach response efforts, including regulatory notifications and investigations.
  • Represent clients in privacy-related litigation and regulatory actions.
  • Monitor evolving privacy and AI regulations and provide guidance.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and collaborate across practice groups.

Requirements

  • At least 6+ years of experience in data privacy, cybersecurity, and related areas.
  • Expertise in CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, HIPAA, CIPA, and other privacy laws.
  • Familiarity with emerging AI laws and regulatory standards.
  • Strong legal writing, drafting, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication and counseling skills with legal and technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in litigation and/or regulatory enforcement matters related to data privacy/cybersecurity.
  • Active member in good standing of the California State Bar.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the California State Bar.
