A law firm seeks an experienced Attorney to join its State and Local Tax (SALT) practice in Frederick, Maryland. This role focuses on Maryland tax matters and requires deep technical SALT experience, strong client-facing skills, and the ability to manage complex matters independently.

Duties

  • Take ownership of assigned cases from start to finish, developing strategies for successful outcomes.
  • Conduct thorough legal research to support case strategies and provide informed advice.
  • Prepare, review, and finalize legal documents with precision.
  • Maintain proactive communication with clients regarding case progress.
  • Represent clients effectively in negotiations to achieve favorable resolutions.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and colleagues across practice areas.
  • Uphold professional conduct and adhere to state bar requirements.
  • Manage financial aspects of cases, including retainers and receivables.
  • Stay current with legal developments and complete required CLE.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • 5+ years of experience in Maryland state and local tax law.
  • Substantial experience with sales and use tax.
  • Strong knowledge of Maryland SALT issues; multistate experience preferred.
  • Admission to practice law in Maryland.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage matters independently.
  • Client-focused mindset with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment required.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
