Job Overview: A top-tier U.S. law firm is seeking an experienced Corporate Aviation Of Counsel to join its Business and Transactions practice group. This role focuses on managing complex, high-value corporate aviation transactions for a sophisticated global clientele including airlines, leasing companies, high-net-worth individuals, and financial institutions. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience and be able to independently advise clients.
Location:
Salt Lake City, UT
Duties:
Lead and manage aircraft transactions including sales, acquisitions, leases, and financing arrangements
Advise clients on FAA compliance, operational issues, and federal, state, and local tax implications
Draft, negotiate, and review complex transactional documents
Counsel clients on aircraft completion, customization, maintenance, and operation
Represent a diverse client base, including:
U.S. and international airlines
Corporate and private aircraft owners
High-net-worth individuals
Leasing companies, banks, and aviation manufacturers
Independently manage legal matters and client relationships
Serve as principal counsel in aviation matters involving general aviation to large VIP aircraft (e.g., Boeing 747-800, Boeing 787)
Requirements:
Minimum of 10 years of legal experience in corporate aviation transactions
Ability to independently advise clients and manage deal flow
Demonstrated experience handling cross-border and domestic aircraft transactions
Strong familiarity with FAA regulations and aviation tax structures
Active law license in the state corresponding to one of the office locations
Existing client relationships or portable book of business is highly desirable
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Active bar membership in the state where the candidate intends to practice
Skills:
Expertise in aviation regulatory and transactional law
High-level contract negotiation and drafting
Strategic thinking and legal problem-solving
Business development and client relationship management
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Detail-oriented and highly organized in managing large, complex transactions
