Job Overview

A law firm seeks a highly motivated and experienced Associate or Counsel Attorney to join its Data Privacy practice group in Minneapolis, MN. This role involves advising public and private clients on data privacy and cybersecurity matters, including regulatory compliance and risk management. The position requires a deep understanding of privacy laws and the ability to manage complex legal projects independently.

Duties

  • Advise clients on compliance issues related to data privacy, cybersecurity, and AI laws.
  • Conduct risk assessments and audits.
  • Collaborate with teams on product and service development.
  • Support clients in data breach responses.
  • Draft and negotiate data-related agreements.
  • Provide counsel on privacy in corporate transactions.
  • Monitor and analyze emerging legislation and regulatory guidance.
  • Prepare training materials and presentations on privacy best practices.
  • Participate in business development and client relationship building.
  • Mentor and supervise junior associates and legal staff.

Requirements

  • Four to eight years of legal experience, with at least three years in privacy, cybersecurity, or AI.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure.
  • Experience with MS Word.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Preferred: IAPP CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, AIGP.

Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of GDPR.
  • Experience with technology companies, healthcare organizations, or data-driven businesses.
  • Combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred.
  • Litigation experience is a plus.
